U.S. News & World Report provides an enticing reason as to why the Palos Verdes Peninsula is
an excellent place to live: education. Both Palos Verdes high schools placed in the news organization’s top high school reports. Palos Verdes High School and Palos Verdes Peninsula High School were two of the thousands of
public schools examined in California and across the country.
Performance in several key areas determined the school’s rankings. Report methodology
examined six key performance areas including college readiness, reading and math proficiency,
reading and math performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth,
and graduation rates when designing the lists. Data from an academic year unimpacted by the
COVID-19 virus, 2018-2019, was used when examining criteria.
24,000 public high schools were put to the test with the goal of providing insight into academic
performance among underserved groups, how much support these students were given, and
how proficient students were in reading and math categories. Families can also use the rankings
to see how their local high schools fare at the local, state, and national levels vis a vie
graduation rates and college readiness, according to Anita Narayan, managing editor of
education at U.S. News
Both schools have won numerous awards, including CSBA’s Golden Bell Award and the
California Department of Education’s Gold Ribbon School distinction, and are consistently
recognized as top educational organizations with great academic track records, competitive
sports teams, and a bevy of extracurricular activity with diverse subject matters including STEM,
law, and international affairs making them great options to prepare high schoolers for top
Both schools have received top marks in both reports for several consecutive years over the last
decade. This year, Palos Verdes Peninsula High School placed 49 th in U.S News’ Top California
High Schools and 350 th in its Best High Schools in America list.
Education is a cornerstone of many homebuying decisions and the Palos Verdes Peninsula
proves its excellence with these two highly-ranked high schools. This begins at earlier levels as
