Homeowners will be prohibited from renting to lodgers for less than 30 days under an ordinance approved by the City Council on Monday.
Short term rentals have become increasingly popular alternatives to hotel stays through listing services like Airbnb. Councilman James Black brought the issue forward when he heard complaints from residents about the practice taking place in the gated community. The decision will be finalized at the next meeting on June 8.
Instead of regulating short term rentals by requiring registration with the city and collecting transient occupancy tax, the council opted for an outright ban.
